Q: What is the application deadline?
A: The application deadline is April 1, 2014.

Q: When is the Round 1 audition?
A: Saturday, April 26, 2014. [Schedule]

Q: I am a current AYSE or AYCO musician but want to try for AYSO or AYP. If I don’t pass the symphonic level audition, will I have a chance to re-audition for AYSE or AYCO?
A: Yes, any current member of AYSE or AYCO will have the opportunity to re-audition for that orchestra, even if they make it to Round 2 but are not selected for a symphonic level orchestra (AYSO and AYP). If this happens, applicants will be notified immediately of the opportunity to re-audition for the preparatory level.

Q: When will I receive my excerpts?
A: Excerpts are posted here.

Q: Are the excerpts the same for Round 1 AND Round 2?
A: Yes! Excerpts are posted here.

Q: I am applying for the symphonic level but if I'm not accepted and want to audition at the preparatory level, can I use the same symphonic level excerpts?
A: (This answer only applies to strings musicians) If you try for the symphonic level (AYSO and AYP) but do not pass Round 1, you will be emailed different excerpts to prepare for the preparatory level (AYSE and AYCO) at Round 2 in June. If you do pass Round 1 at the symphonic level, then audition at Round 2 but are not selected, you will be notified immediately and given the opportunity to audition at the preparatory level within the following week and can play the symphonic level excerpts again since it is a short period of time. Excerpts are posted here.

Q: Can I play the same solo piece at Round 1 and Round 2 auditions?
A: Yes!

Q: If I play with AYPO in the current season but will be changing instruments for next season, am I considered a "New Applicant"?
A: Yes.

Q: Can I audition on two instruments?
A: Yes, but you will only be offered membership for one instrument, if qualified. The judges will place you according to your audition performance, as well as the needs of each orchestra.

Q: I only want to audition for AYCO. Can I specify this on my audition application?
A: No, you must audition for the preparatory level (AYSE and AYCO). The judges will place you according to your audition.

A: No, you must audition for the symphonic level (AYSO and AYP). The judges will place you according to your audition.

Q: I was a musician in AYPO two (or more) seasons ago but not during the most recent season. Am I considered a “returning musician”?
A: No, you would be considered a “new applicant”. Only musicians who participated during the most recent season are considered “returning musicians”.

Q: I am auditioning at Round 1. Since it is a blind audition (behind a curtain), what do I do if I have a question for the judges or don't understand what they are asking of me?
A: Since it is not allowed for musicians to speak during Round 1 auditions, the musician should exit the room and ask the volunteer questions or for clarification. The volunteer will then communicate directly with the judges.

Q: When will I receive my audition results for Round 1?
A: Round 1 audition results will be emailed in May 2014.

Q: When will I receive my audition time for Round 2?

Acceptances for the 2014-2015 Season

Q: What is the acceptance deadline?
A: August 1, 2014.

Q: What if I need help with the acceptance forms but it is Saturday and the office is closed?
A:
AYPO staff members work during regular business hours (Monday through Friday) and can assist members during that time. It is recommended to email manager@aypo.org for a more efficient response.

Q: How do I access the acceptance forms?
A: The acceptance forms are located in the password-protected Members section of the AYPO website: http://www.aypo.org/members/acceptance-forms

Q: I am not able to login to the forms. Please help!
A: There could be a number of issues; please go through the following list:
- Reset the password using the link provided http://www.aypo.org/members/forgot.php
-
Retrieve the username and password from the musician’s email address (check the junk folder)
- Returning members might have a username and/or password that is different from the 2013-2014 season
- Make sure to enter the username when logging in as opposed to entering the email address
-Enter the password exactly as written in the email sent to you (include any dashes, if applicable)
- If a parent provided the same email address for siblings, the system will choose only one to send a username/password. You will need to provide AYPO with a different email address for each musician.

Q: I requested a new password using the Forgot Password link but I didn't I receive an email. How do I get the login information?
A: There could be a number of issues; please go through the following list:
-
Try a different email address; the one AYPO uses as "musician email address" is pulled from the audition application and might be the parent's email address if that was the information provided.
- Musician's email address might be different from the one used on the audition application (i.e. the email account was closed or changed). Contact AYPO to give an updated email address for the musician.
- If a parent provided the same email address for siblings, the system will choose only one to send a username/password. You will need to provide AYPO with a different email address for each musician.

Q: Why is there incorrect information auto-filled on the acceptance forms?
A: The information on the acceptance forms came directly from the musician's original audition application. You can edit most information except for the orchestra, instrument, and position.

Q: What do I do after saving all of the forms?
A: After saving all required forms a large "Submit" button will appear on the side navigation column on the Acceptance Forms homepage. Once pressing that button your forms will be submitted to the AYPO office and you cannot make any changes manually. A copy of all form information will be sent to the musician’s email address.

Q: Why is the account associated with the musician’s email address? I am a parent and cannot access that email account; I would prefer my email address to be primary.
A: The AYPO database is set up in a manner that requires the musician’s email address to be the main one on file. Parents can ask the musician or AYPO staff to provide the username and password for complete access.

Q: I chose to pay online but now would like to mail a check. I already submitted the forms and cannot go back to change it. What should I do?
A: Email manager@aypo.org with the musician’s full name, orchestra, instrument, and any changes you need made to the form. Include the same information in the memo line of the mailed check.

Q: I chose to pay by mailing a check but now would like to pay online. I already submitted the forms and cannot go back to change it. What should I do?
A: It is not possible to pay online once the forms are submitted. Please call 703-642-8052 to give your credit card information over the phone.

A: Orchestra tuition for the 2014-2015 season: AYP $1200, AYSO $1175, AYCO $1125, and AYSE $975.
