The Virginia String Teachers Association (VASTA) is teaming up with the Fairfax Symphony and George Mason University to present a masterclass with the world-famous violinist, Elmar Oliveira. Five soloists have been selected to perform in this masterclass including violinist Erin Phelps from the AYP. Students in grades K-12 are eligible for the FSO free student ticket program, and discount tickets are available for accompanying parents.

Bradford Gowen has received national attention since winning first prize in the 1978 Kennedy Center / Rockefeller Foundation International Competition for Excellence in the Performance of American Music. Currently on the piano faculty at the University of Maryland, he is one of the pianists featured in The Most Wanted Piano Teachers in the USA.

The Cavani String Quartet, winner of the prestigious Naumburg Chamber Music Award, has been described by The Washington Post as “completely engrossing, powerful and elegant.” Cavani has also been a top prizewinner at the Fischoff, Banff International and Cleveland Quartet Competitions. The quartet makes its home in Cleveland, Ohio, where since 1988, they have been the Quartet-in-Residence at the world-renowned Cleveland Institute of Music.
